Freelancing is hugely rewarding, and one of the most common challenges is growing your client base without the infrastructure of a larger organisation to support you.
This skill set is designed to help you grow new client relationships, develop strategies to expand your business and identify tactics to market your services.
It includes three modules for developing skills to grow your freelance business whether you’ve just begun or are more established.

This skill set includes three modules:
1. Build client relationships and business networks
- Initiate personal communication with clients
- Establish client relationship management strategies
- Maintain and improve client relationships
- Build and maintain networks
2. Develop business development strategies to expand your client base
- Develop strategies to identify potential clients
- Initiate relationships with potential clients
- Manage client relationships
- Utilise networks to expand client base
3. Market the business
- Develop marketing strategies
- Determine a marketing mix for the business
- Implement marketing strategies
- Monitor and improve marketing performance
Who should enrol
This non-accredited skill set is designed for freelancers working in creative, technical, professional or personal service industries who want to expand their client base and grow their business.
Course delivery and support
This skill set is delivered fully online via MiTraining’s Learning Management System (LMS). When you enrol you’ll be asked to setup your LMS student account and will then be granted immediate access to the course materials including:
- Course content and reading materials
- Quizzes and knowledge checks
- Reflective questions and activities
- Extra learning resources
You will have a 6 months’ access to the learning resources to provide additional time and flexibility to complete each module.
MiTraining recommends committing around 3-5 hours per week to the course including reading the course material and attempting course activities.
You may complete the course more quickly depending on how much time you can dedicate.

The freelance economy, or the gig economy, is described as economic activity related to short term, project based work – and it’s booming in Australia and globally.
Those working within it or planning a move to working in this arena describe themselves as consultants, freelancers or contractors but they all share a desire to work independently.
Freelancers can work across almost any industry providing their personal expertise and skills to add value to their clients.
What are the course payment options?
There is a one-off, up front course fee that can be paid by credit card or an invoice (by request).
Do I have to do the course activities?
The course activities are designed to build your understanding of each topic area. The activities are not marked or assessed but you must complete them to make the most of the learning and receive a Certificate of Completion.
Is the course accredited?
MiTraining has drawn on its team’s expertise to develop this engaging and contemporary skill set. It is a non-accredited course designed for individual professional development.
